The drop spindle is a primitive fiber-spinning tool that has been used for countless generations, and is still being used as a primary spinning tool throughout the world today. It has become very popular among current handspinners for spinning fibers such as, wool, cotton, angora, and dog hair. Drop spindles are very portable, economical, and very easy to use. In this 2 hour class, learn the basics of spinning wool into yarn using a drop spindle.

We will focus on using a top whorl drop spindle to spin yarn from already prepared fiber. There will be examples of handspun yarn and projects knit with handspun yarn. You’ll learn spindle types and their advantages, terminology associated with fiber and spinning, and learning to ply your handspun yarn.

The top whorl spindles that we sell at the shop. They are made in Ohio.

I just bought a ticket! This might sound silly but do we get to keep the spindle we learn on or is it just for practice?

      You get to keep it!
