Continental Knitting @ Michigan Fibre Studio
Jan 20 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Continental knitting is a method of knitting that requires the knitter to hold the working yarn in the left hand. Instead of wrapping the yarn around the needle with the right hand the knitter uses the right needle to catch the yarn and pull it through the loop on the left needle. The catching motion is sometimes referred to as picking. This method of knitting can be done very quickly because the knitter is working at the tips of her needles and the throwing motion of English knitting is eliminated. It is also convenient for two color knitting; one color can be picked and the other thrown.

Prerequisites: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off.

Skills Taught: Continental knitting.

Date and time: Saturday, January 20 from 10a – noon.

Cost: $20.00

Materials: To be purchased at Michigan Fibre Studio.

 One skein of worsted weight yarn in a light color.
 Needles – US size 8 straight or circular – circular needles are preferable as they are easier to use.

Homework: To be done before class. Cast on 20 stitches and knit 4 rows.

Class Size: Minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 8.

Instructor: Amy Gallmeyer Knitting

Oops! Fixing Mistakes @ Michigan Fibre Studio
Feb 17 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Knitting mistakes are bound to happen from time to time. A twisted stitch here, a dropped stitch there can often stop a knitter in his or her row not knowing quite what to do. Learning easy ways to fix mistakes, often without ripping back, will keep you knitting and finishing projects.

Prerequisites: This class is for the knitter who has enough experience knitting to recognize mistakes.

Skills Taught: Different fixing processes – tinking, frogging, life lines, picking up stitches, twisted stitches and extra stitches, dealing with missing or too many stitches, reversing leaning decreases and cables.

Saturday, February 17 from 1 – 4p

Homework: To be done before session meets. Using a light color worsted weight wool cast on 20 stitches and work in stockinette for 2 inches. Do not bind off.

To bring to class:
Swatch

Cost: $30.00
