4 Day Sweater KAL by Olive Knits – Soundtrack @ Michigan Fibre Studio
Aug 1 all-day

It’s time for Marie Green’s 4 day Sweater KAL!

This is the fourth annual KAL. If you missed prior years:
2019 – Foxtrot
2018 – Beekeeper
2017 – Stillwater

Pattern is launched on Ravelry starting TODAY, May 28th! The pattern is available for in store purchase (meaning you can purchase through your LYS) and is discounted to $8.00 through June 15th. Pattern listing: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soundtrack-2

June 15th – Discount period ends. Pattern will be $9.00 from this date forward.

July 1st – Official Soundtrack pattern lands to all libraries and we cast on!

This is our first year participating but we have some fun things in store!

Dates:
In the past, this has been a 4 day KAL but since this is the 4th annual Marie added a little extra spin. She’s giving participants 4x as long to finish their sweaters this year. So basically, it’s the whole month of July.

Yarn:
We have a few yarns that will work. With a gauge of 21st over 4″, we are recommending the following: Shepherd’s Wool (Merino), Deluxe Worsted (wool), Deluxe SW Worsted (sw wool), Malabrigo Rios (sw merino), Dona (extra fine sw merino), Deluxe SW DK (sw wool)

Details:
How about a little friendly competition??? Threadbender Yarn Shop has opened an invitation for a friendly competition between the two shops! To participate, you must sign up with one of the shops (that is the team you will be on). Signing up requires: New yarn for project. Project must be started and completed between July 1 – August 1. If you want to participate in the competition but do not want to make the Soundtrack Sweater pattern, you must choose one of the other 4 Day KAL patterns (listed above). For all completed sweaters, 2 points for Soundtrack and 1 point for the previous years patterns. The shop with the most points wins!

What do you win? We’re still working on that but you will not be disappointed! There might be a boombox involved…

Grand Prize: There will be a Best in Show prize. All finished sweaters will be voted on in a FB poll.

KAL Dates:
This may be virtual or in person. Stay tuned to dates and times.

Soundtrack Sweater
Designed for a unisex fit, the Soundtrack Sweater is a top-down, seamless circular yoke pullover sweater with a slipped stitch pattern in two colors. For a less dramatic look, choose two tonal colors,
rather than high contrast.

Skill Level: Advanced beginner

Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
see finished measurements to choose your fit

Finished Measurements
A) Bust/Chest Circumference: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64) in
B) Yoke Depth: 8 (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 13, 13) in
C) Sleeve Circumference: 11 (13, 15, 15.5, 17, 18, 19, 20, 20) in

Recommended Fit
Men’s fit – Choose the finished size closest to your actual chest measurement
Women’s fit – For most bust sizes, choose the finished size that measures at least 2-4 in larger than your actual bust measurement for comfortable ease. If you have smaller shoulders and belly but a large bust, you may prefer a finished measurement that is close to or equal to your actual bust measurement.

Gauge
21 st and 31 rows in 4 in in stockinette stitch, blocked

Yarn
This pattern recommends a DK or light worsted weight wool, knit to a gauge of 21 st in 4 in on a US Size 5/3.75mm needle in stockinette stitch, blocked.

MC: 900 (1000, 1100, 1188, 1283, 1360, 1442, 1528, 1620) yards
CC: 175 (187, 200, 212, 229, 243, 257, 273, 289) yards

Aug 7 all-day

It’s time for another Casapinka MKAL!

Details from Casapinka:
  1. Four skeins of fingering weight yarn – 370-400 yards each.
  2. I suggest one neutral or “Base” Color.
  3. Using two of the same color that are different shades is also great (you can see that I have a peachy pink and an almost neon pink, below.) They still need to contrast with each other. Contrast of all the colors is important!
  4. And one other contrasting shade, to make the 4 different colors.
  5. You can also use 4 separate contrasting yarns.
  6. Subtle speckles are probably great for all four but this has not been tested.
  7. You can use one skein of variegated and one (less than subtle) speckle.
  8. If you’re using a variegated, make sure it doesn’t contain a lot of the same colors as the other yarns because it will blend. You want contrast! (I mentioned that, right?)
  9. There are 3 needle sizes due to varying gauges – US 4, 5, 6. Most is done on a US 6. Sample gauge is 22/4″ on US 6 in SS after blocking.
  10. There are 2 versions – Absolute Beginner shawl knitter and Advanced Beginner. With the pandemic, I don’t want to think too much so I assume I’m not the only one!
  11. Shape: Rectangle. It will be adjustable in length.
  12. I’m sure I left something out. Please see my Instagram post with the above graphic on it and swipe through because it’s probably mentioned there!

Casapinka put all of the MKAL yarn and pattern information on Ravelry (link below.) Facebook is not set up to hold all of the images and information in a good format but you can easily link Facebook to Instagram to get information there if you cannot use Ravelry

See our FB event for in-stock color options!

Dates:
Begins August 7. The pre-clue will be for sale Thursday, July 23 in the form of a schematic so you can plan your colors by drawing in the schematic. It will just be a general idea of how they work and will not be literal or give away any of Sharon’s secret knitting. Once you buy the pre-clue, you will be automatically emailed every time a new clue comes out, and any updates that Sharon From Security may choose to send. And yes, that may include updates of outrage at the lack of snacks available at Casapinka so please know what you’re signing up for.

Yarn: 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn. Final amounts are still in testing but 325-350 yards for each color should be fine. See FB event for in stock suggested color kits! Or scroll to the bottom of this event.

Details: One clue per week for 6 weeks.

Design is for a rectangular shawl with 2 versions: One for absolute beginning shawl knitters and one for advanced beginners. With Covid, I thought we all needed something relatively simple.

Gauge: 22 sts/4” on US6/4mm. BUT there are a few stitches with different gauges so you will need US 4 and 5 as well (suggested), all at least 24” (just FYI if I’m changing gauge and need a US4, I just know how to knit more tightly on my US 6.) You will be able to control the final length (but not the width) so I’m not giving measurements. It’s average width. There has to be some mystery! If mysteries make you stressed, don’t do it! There is too much stress in the world right now and we need fun

KAL Dates:
We are still doing virtual Zoom meetings! Every Thursday night 7-9pm and Saturday morning 11am – 1pm. You can join us anytime to knit along!

The dates on this event are for the pattern releases. There will be no Zoom on those days.

Please be sure to join the MFS KAL/CAL/WAL group on FB!

Please be sure to join the MFS KAL/CAL/WAL group on FB!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/372836600034074/

KAL/CAL/WAL Policies:
Although we would love to see you at the group sessions (in normal times), you can participate from anywhere! This KAL is free to participate in, but as with all classes, KALs/CALs/WALs, you must use yarns purchased from our store to join. Purchasing supplies and patterns supports designers and your LYS.

Join anytime!
