Marching in Like a Lion!
Well, this month has sure started in a blustery and snowy way, hasn’t it? But if I only sit back and dream of beaches and warm weather, I will miss the beauty of a white blanketed back yard, the yumminess of a warm mug of hot cocoa after shoveling the driveway and walks, the pure glee in my dogs’ hearts as they race around in the snow like furry little snowplows. And although it is a bit of a cliche, I would miss the joy of sitting back with a lap full of knitting and enjoying the peace of an early morning snowfall with a cup of tea.
As we are enjoying/enduring the last blows of winter, Heather and I are putting together quite a month at Michigan Fibre Studio. We have some great classes, a new hat club, fun times at the Fibre Ball, and some surprises throughout the month.
The classes we offer this month all focus on a technique and incorporate that technique to create a finished project. March has the Elise Shawl for the crocheters among us. It is a shawl that will teach reading written and charted patterns, picot edging and blocking.
Our beginning crochet class works on a dishcloth as you learn the basic crochet stitches.
There is also the Hairpin Lace Cowl class which is a favorite. This cowl looks great with a variegated yarn. You will learn how to use a hairpin lace loom and how to join the strips made.
For knitting, we start with the Stranded Fingerless Mitts. This is a great project to learn how to knit with more than one color at a time. You will learn chart reading and weaving in floats among other skills.
We are so excited to offer a Sweater Series at the Studio! We know how facing that first adult sized sweater you make for yourself can be daunting. Have no fear! Walking through that process with a skilled teacher makes a big difference. This 4 class series will take you through all of the steps to make the perfect fitting sweater. You will learn how to pick out a sweater pattern that will fit well on you, the construction of the sweater, swatching, the best increases and decreases to use, and correcting mistakes. There is homework for this class, so sign up early to get started!
As always, if you have any questions about our classes, please call us or, better yet, stop in and visit us. We’d be happy to answer any questions.
March is the first month of our Hat Club! Each month, we will offer a pattern and yarn selection for a knitted or crocheted hat with some sort of special attached. This month’s hat is a little cutie and can be made for babies, children or adults. A mailer will be going out later this week with all of the details, so stay tuned!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our Fibre Ball ~ March 18th. And our Spinning Wednesdays are still going on ~ we are loving all fo the great yarn being created here! Our next Spinning Wednesday is March 9th and continues every other Wednesday.
So, if the saying is true to its meaning, this March should go out like a lamb. We couldn’t think of a better way for it to end! Whatever our month brings, we hope it brings you happiness and creativity!
