Hello ~ my name is Michigan Fibre Studio ~ it’s nice to meet you!
Wow ~ has it been a month since we started this magnificent path? In that month, we have met so many of you, had three celebrations (hey, we like to party, what can we say?), brought in over 10 local artists, offered several classes and brought in beautiful and colorful yarns, fibres and fabrics to tickle your (and our) fancies. Who knew this could be so much fun?!?
Before I get in to introducing ourselves, we want to say thank you to all of you who have helped us see our dream come true ~ family and friends (who are pretty much family without the shared genes) who have encouraged us and have become just as excited about our shop as we have; local artists who have allowed us to share their creations with this great community; our social media divas and divos who have reposted, shared, Instagrammed, Tweeted and reviewed us; the Eastown neighbors, whether from the shops or homes, who have come in and welcomed us to the neighborhood, whether or not they would ever buy fibre; customers who have come in and enjoyed a skein of yarn or twist of fibre or two, who have sit and crafted with us, shared stories and experiences and what they want to see in their local fibre shop. It warms our Michigander hearts and keeps our dreams alive. Thank you so much!
Who is Michigan Fibre Studio? Heather and I (Michelle) came together to create a space for fibre community in Grand Rapids. We are both fans of the other shops from the past and our neighboring communities, but we thought that we needed to create our own community in the here and now. We wanted a place where people could come and learn, create, teach, inspire, play, and explore. We also wanted to bring great things to this community ~ well crafted yarns and fibres that will make your projects special. We wanted to showcase our local artists so our community could marvel at their creations and support them. We wanted to bring great American yarns in and support our small and not so small yarn/fibre manufacturers. We wanted to support fair trade and companies that support fair trade business with other countries. And we wanted to bring good quality yarns in for your go-to yarns and quality tools with which to create. I think we are more than that, but you will just have to come down and check us out for our finer details 🙂
This community that we are creating ~ it’s yours too ~ so if you are or know of a local artist that would be interested in selling, give us an introduction. If you have a skill that you want to learn, let us know. I bet a few others would want to learn that too. Have a favorite indie dyer? We love fibery eye candy ~ please share! We will see if they are interested in working with us. We have a lot to learn from you and we are eager to hear what you have to say. Come on in and chat with us or send us an email ~ firstname.lastname@example.org. We are looking forward to crafting with you ~ come create with us!
